Supermarine
Pre-Treatment Wash Primer
(SM-117) is a Chromate Polyvinyl Butyral Two-Component Etching
Wash Primer used on hard to adhere to aluminum, galvanized and
stainless steel surfaces. A pre-treatment primer intended to
be used in combination with an intermediate primer. Not intended
as a permanent protective primer in itself although some
protection is afforded for short periods of time. To ensure best
results the pre-treatment should be coated with a primer and
finish with paint as soon as possible. For best adhesion
results, wash primer should be applied by spray no more than a
fog coat, however, it may be applied by means of a light brush
coat at a dry film thickness of .00076 cm. to .00127 cm. This
product is semi-transparent, it is not necessary to hide the
substrate with the primer. The major purpose of this primer is
to provide an adhesion surface for subsequent primers and
protective marine paint. Not required for use on wood,
fiberglass or steel. Meets Federal Specification number
MIL-P-15328.
